Business Development Tips
After getting a number of business development sessions under my belt. These are some of the tips I quickly learnt which helped me have more success when cold calling or speculatively speaking to businesses regarding a candidate.
Be organised – I have mentioned being organised as a key skill to master as a Recruiter. It’s just as important when making cold calls. Plan your calls the day before so you can go through your business development list efficiently and quickly.
Do your research on the client you’re calling! – I really feel like this will help you have a better quality call if you get through to the decision maker. Being knowledgeable of the clients business and what they specialise in will help you sell your candidate or be perceived as an expert who does their research. Also use Linkedin to have a look at the clients profile who you’re intending to speak to. Use this information to your advantage by building up rapport.
Be receptive! – Of course it’s important to sell your candidate or sell your services but it’s probably more important to shut up and listen! When you listen to the client use the information they’re giving you to your advantage. You can use this to ask good quality questions which will help you understand more about them and their business. At this stage you want to find out as much as you possibly can and start building up a relationship! BE RECEPTIVE!
